Did I say November was full of ups and downs? Here is one of the incredible ups - Bridge of the Gods was named an official finalist in the 2017 Best Book Awards!!! With over 2,000 entries this is a huge honor, and such a surprise!!!

Throughout those entire four years it took to write Book One and Book Two - I was learning so much, on the spot. The first few drafts were so clumsy, so overly-clever, so pretentious, so awkward, and so embarrassing - which I discovered when I had my husband read them out loud to me.

Now, I know I've said it before, but I'll say it again because it's such a good writing hack - writers: have someone read your work out loud to you. Their ability to read it (or not) will show you exactly where the awkward parts are. You'll hear the sentences that sound silly - and though that can be incredibly painful - it's the perfect way to have the most glaring errors stand out.
