Rock Out to Walk Out!

Hey Hey comrades, feast your eyes on this pearl of musical wisdom, THE LITTLE RED ALBUM sponsored by our own union, the inimitable ILWU LOCAL 5. The dedicated efforts of Gold Room Guru Bryan Bingold and the smoothest union vice president ever Ryan Takas have resulted in  a glorious collection of workers songs that you can now own!  11 songs written by various workers of yore, Joe Hill most notably, and reinvented by 10 Powell's bands including my own solo project Lovejoy are ready for sale.  The liner notes were written by none other than our working man's hero and uber hottie BILLY BRAGG, and the songs include numbers by Nate Ashbury and the Picknicking Friends, Michael Ford, The Legendary Black Mark Savage, and Ay, Claudia! A project of love, brotherhood and ferocious tenacity, to be sure.
Check the Mercury's interview with Union board president Ryan Van Winkle HERE.

Come buy your own copy of the cd and attend the very exciting downtown concert next Friday, August 27th at the Cleaners SW Stark and 10th, at the Ace Hotel from 5pm -2am! The proceeds from the cd sales and the concert will benefit the union's strike fund and celebrate their ten year birthday.

"Let the workers organize. Let the toilers assemble. Let their crystallized voice proclaim their injustices and demand their privileges. Let all thoughtful citizens sustain them, for the future of Labor is the future of America." -- John Lewis
