Housetruck Girl

This is me, 8 years old, living in the hippy house truck. This is right after my California dreams of Elton John and the Match Game were crushed. During this new episode of my life I would identify intensely with Laura Ingalls Wilder, wearing all my shirts buttoned up to my chin because she did. We both lived in covered trailers of sorts, and spent a lot of time on the road. When we stopped, we both had to draw water from streams and make camp wherever we were. We both froze our asses off in the winter. In this picture I am proudly displaying my latest horse art. Which I still do, 32 years later.

Backus, Baby!

Here is a great book I got from my grandmother's house. Jim Backus, known to most of you as Mr. Howell on Gilligan's island wrote this book with his wife Henny. The book is actually signed by Henny Backus! I loved Jim Backus because of his funny voice that his wife describes as "the imitation you do right before you put the lampshade on your head and I have to call a cab". He seemed like a really nice man and I thought my grandpa would have liked him.
